Portugal Wine & Food
The land of lush wine and the freshest, most delicious grilled fish. And Iberian pork any way you want it. Watch out Spain & Italy, Portugal is making cured meats and sausages to rival yours. You can eat heartily and inexpensively here OR you can treat yourself Michelin star-style for half of what you would in the rest of Western Europe. The variety of insanely good (and affordable!!!) wine is dizzying: From traditional port to fresh and elegant whites in Melgaço/Monçao and reds in Dao to modern and experimental of all types in Alentejo. Some favorite wines are alvarinhos from Vinho Verde territory, red and white blends plus the indigenous grapes encruzado (white) and jaen (red) from the Dao, reds (baga) from Bairrada and white and red table wines from the Douro including cool field blends and single varietal bottlings of touriga nacional, THE national grape of this incredible place and the backbone of the famous Port wines!
